June's Class Parent Updates (Newsflash)

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing winter break.

Santa brought me a plumbing leak under my house.  Luckily everything is safe and the pipes are all fixed now.  But aside from that excitement, I spent the whole 2 weeks reading books and loving every minute!

THANK YOU!   On behalf of Emily and myself, we wanted to thank you all for your generosity for our holiday gifts we received before break.  We are so appreciative and wanted to thank each of you for your contributions.  Thank you!

Ms. Emily’s family update: In case your child came home mentioning Ms. Emily was out with a family emergency, she is currently back.  She spent a week in WA and just flew back yesterday.  Her brother is in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant, so we are showering her with love and prayers.  She will have to fly back once he goes into surgery, but the kids have been very helpful in stepping up when she was out.

Here is the Conference Sign Up for next Friday’s start to conferences.  I’m trying Herman’s new sign up find, signup.com so hopefully this works! (Crossing fingers):  https://signup.com/go/AHGqjQb  If you have any problems, or can’t find a slot that works, just send me an email and I’ll see what I can arrange.

100th Day of School: Friday, January 17th, is the 100th day of school.  If your child would like to bring in a collection (not valuable!) of 100 of something, they are welcome to bring in to share.  Note, that photos of said collections might work best, especially for diamonds, dollar bills, and expensive cars!  Makes them also very easy to carry.  =)

Jackets/sweaters – Don’t forget to put names on your child jackets or in the pockets!  We have a ton of extra coats we didn’t start the day with so I want them to make it home.   Thanks for your help!

The kids haven’t fallen asleep yet this week so great job helping them get back on their school schedules. I think that does it for now.   See you at conferences over the next couple of weeks!

~ June

Happy last week before break!  (But who's counting?)  😄

That does it for this upcoming week.  Thank you all for making this a wonderful year so far.  Your kind words, help when I've asked, and volunteering has made this my most relaxed year teaching thus far.  And your wonderful children make each day an adventure!  We never know what to expect each day.  🤣   May you all stay well and may your holiday break be filled with much relaxing, family time, and making wonderful memories with your loved ones.

Have  wonderful and blessed holiday season!

Day of presentation: Turn in written/typed report and bring 3D project.

Child as Teacher/Parent Week: Arrive around 8:10 or plan to stay after the presentations are through for a lesson or two from your child.  You will be served a beverage (coffee, tea, water and possibly some fruit) by your child.  It’s for you (not them!) as I’m providing for parents only.  They were already told this. 😉

If your child’s project is on a computer, we have an HDMI cable to project on our class TV.  If on a USB, please send in at least a day before so we can test it to be sure it’s working.  Thx!

If you would prefer to email a project like a slideshow, please email access to my Google account:  [email protected]     This email is different from my school and is ONLY for accessing Google documents – No messages can be received on this account via email!

I think that covers everything for now.  Have a wonderful and relaxing time celebrating with family and making lots of new memories!

Howdy!

We made it through our first week back from break.  I sure could have used just one more week of sleep and relaxation, but we all bounced back into the work routine quickly.  Since many of you might have missed the email from before break, I’m reposting much of it here, but first up is our Safety Walk this coming Tuesday morning.  The link to the permission slip is attached.  Be sure to fill the Google Form by Monday so we don’t have call or resend the link.  I greatly appreciate the prompt help!

Safety Walk Permission Slip due Monday, 10/21/24: https://forms.gle/osL1fBkxVAkjRnZj7

Scholastic Book Orders due 10/25/24: https://orders.scholastic.com/GLF7V

Reminders from last email Parent Updates sent on 10/4/24:

Pumpkins: We could use pumpkins to decorate the class of all shapes, sizes, and colors.  Some will become our science experiments, and some might just get us through until Thanksgiving.  Feel free to send one or two in!

Goodie Bag items: We will have a Fall Fun Day on October 31st.  We’d like to assemble some goodie bags for the kids with NON-Candy items.  If you’d like to send in 29 of something like pencils, erasers, or things, that would be awesome!  We’ll need a parent or two to help that day, but I’ll reach out closer to the end of the month.

Pizza Shopper Chaperones: Be sure to check the sign up and add your name to the list on our website.

Fingerprint Cards and Volunteer paperwork:  This quarter would be a great time to get your fingerprint clearance cards in the works and submit all your volunteer paperwork.  Field trips will start in the spring (Jan-Mar) and sometimes the process can take a while to get your card returned.

Research Projects: Be sure to help your child get books or print out child friendly resources for their Africa Reports. (The topics list and extra research packets will be uploaded over break to our class website in case the one sent home on Wednesday didn’t make it)

We will start back on the 14th with our first lessons on taking notes the June Bug way.  Your child is welcome to bring their resources and notecards back and forth from home to school to work on during our silent reading/work time in the afternoons.  3rds will research and write/type their report in class this semester only.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Fall Break!

I hope everyone has a wonderful break full of travel (if that’s your thing) or lounging around just enjoying time to do hobbies and sleep.  I told the students to be sure to bring back leaves if they travel to some cool places with unique leaves we don’t have in the Phoenix area.  So if you are on a trip and a tree ends up in your suitcase…you’ll know why!

Some quick things to note before you head off/or when you return and start digging through your inbox:

Pumpkins: We could use pumpkins to decorate the class of all shapes, sizes, and colors.  Some will become our science experiments, and some might just get us through until Thanksgiving.  Feel free to send one or two in!

Howdy Everyone,

Happy September and almost cooler weather!

What's going on in class:  We've been quite busy learning how to set Smart Goals which we will share with you at your child's conference this month.  We've been learning the writing process, proper handwriting/cursive, and parts of speech including article-adjective-nouns, plural and possessive nouns, as well as concrete vs. abstract nouns.  Plate tectonics, sun and earth, and parts of the earth have been a part of our geography lessons and many students have been researching all kinds of animals found on our Timeline of Life or in our zoology studies.

Time management has been a big piece we've been working on recently, including meeting deadlines for assignments and how to use a planner.  It's a definite learning curve for many of the younger students, but based on the progress I'm seeing with the 3rds, the students are getting better each day!

Be sure to check out our garden when you come for your child's conference.  In just over two weeks, we have all kinds of gourds and other sprouts popping up throughout our class garden box.  Thanks to Laelia's mom, Melinda, for braving the heat just after Labor Day to help the students plant all kinds of seeds.  Our garden soil is magic and can grow virtually anything.  I wonder if a money tree would take off in it? Hmmm... 😉

Africa Reports coming soon!  Your child needs 3-5 topics by next Friday, September 27th on a post-it or piece of paper of possible topics they would like to research.  See below for more details:
  • Help your child to brainstorm a topic to present in December to the class.  This is our big semester research that is done at home (except for 3rd years who will do their research & writing in class this semester only).
  • 3rds pick first, followed by 2nd years.
  • Since 1st years get whatever is left, they are the only students who can choose an African animal to study.
  • Research guidelines and particulars will come home right before Fall Break.
  • Presentations will begin the week following Thanksgiving Break.
That does it for now.  Have a wonderful weekend if I don't see you tomorrow for conferences!

~ June

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the 2nd week of school!  I hope you are all adjusting to the school routine.  We introduced the Timeline of Life, math lessons, spelling homework (Blue sheet due on Friday!), and language lessons start tomorrow.  It's been busy, but the students are getting the routine and mentoring has been going well.

Some things to let you know for the coming week:

June Bug T-Shirts: The "June Bugs" have been submitted and the artwork is being finalized.  We are going with Safety Pink this year.  I'll order a size for your child close to what they currently wear, but anticipating some growth for some over the course of the year or more.  Believe it or not, some students are still wearing their June Bug shirts in 6th grade and beyond!

Parent June Bug Shirts: Great for field trips or when we have some June Bug fun in class.
  • Cost is $10 each.
  • Email, send a note, or comment in Venmo with your size
  • Orders due by this Friday afternoon at 3pm.
  • Cash, check made out to Villa Montessori, or you can Venmo me at https://www.venmo.com/u/June-Kraynik
Water Bottles: We've been having trouble with spills from the water bottles with the straws.  They've been leaking when tipped and one spill almost took out some of our new school supplies.  If you can replace those kind with a NO LEAKING water bottle that would be awesome.  Thank you!

Playground Equipment: Just a reminder to wear lace up/strapped on shoes for playing on the playground.  Please No Crocs/slip on shoes if your child is planning to play on the slide/climbing structure.  Many of our newer students might not know that they could slip when their shoes come off when climbing.

Pizza Friday: This Friday will be our first class Pizza Friday.  Note: Not all classes are starting this Friday, so be sure siblings have lunch if they aren't starting yet!   Ensure your child brings a snack to help them get through the morning.

Pizza Payment: If you haven't sent in payment, please do so ASAP so I can order enough pizza to cover all the students participating.
  • The cost will be $145 year = $120 for pizza + $25 for pizza sides shopping payable now or $72.50 now & $72.50 by January 4.
  • If your child does not want pizza, we'd still like your child to help sponsor the $25 pizza sides once during the school year.
  • Payments can be made via cash, check made out to June Kraynik, or via Venmo https://www.venmo.com/u/June-Kraynik

Volunteer Needs:  We have many spots to fill for upcoming pizza shopping chaperones and pizza pickup, plus other weekly regular donations of flowers and laundry.  Please sign up as soon as you can so we can plan ahead.  Thank you!!

Laundry, Flowers, and other items needed:   We need Costco Napkins ASAP if someone can pick those up for snack and lunch.  Paper towels aren't working as well.  😉

Have an awesome week! Thank you for all you do to help our classroom.  We are well on our way!

~ June
Howdy so soon!

There is a lot packed into this email, so grab your favorite beverage and pull up a chair ....

For the first day of school:

Lunch/Snacks: Your child will need a nutritious lunch with a fresh fruit or vegetable for a snack.  Include an ice pack to keep items cold and a small place mat for your child to eat over.  Lunches will be stored inside the classroom, but could still get warm over the course of the day.

1st day snack: We will have a watermelon snack tomorrow(class tradition!), but just in case your child is not fond of watermelon or is a really big eater, please be sure they have a backup fresh fruit/veggie snack.

Non-sweating Reusable Water Bottle:  Please provide your child with a reusable water bottle that does not sweat and won’t spill from the mouth.  Also, label your child’s water bottle with their name!!! These bottles go missing easily.

Small book bag or backpack: Your child will need a small bag to carry their Communication Folder home each day.

Parent Stuff:

Afternoon Carline: Will be first few days as parents get their carpool signs.  Keep your car line sign posted in your window until your student is in your vehicle.  Plan to pull into a spot if you need more time to buckle your child so we can keep the line moving.  Recommendation, come closer to 3:15 to avoid most of the rush and enter from the south on 28th Street.

June Bug T-shirt $10 - I can accept $10 via Venmo if you don't have checks or cash on hand.  https://www.venmo.com/u/June-Kraynik

3-2-1 Sheet: I've attached a quick form that gives me great insight about your child from you. Please fill it out and return by Parent Night.  I'll also be sending a hard copy home with your carpool signs and other papers.  Thank you!

Hugs From Home: An uplifting card from you to your child for those days when your child is having a rough time.  You can enclose pictures, but no toys or candy/food.  See the attachment explaining the card in detail.  I'll have blank cards at Parent Night for you to quickly fill out if you don't get them turned in before Wednesday.

Supplies – Please label your child’s supply bags or box with their name and “Ms. June’s Class” to help them get to our class and checked in properly.  Additional staff will be helping students unload on the first day of school so supply bags could get mixed up if they are not labeled.  Also, do not label supplies as some items will be community and shared.  If the bag they are in is labeled, I’ll be able to give your child their personal items easier.

Donations and Volunteering Opportunities: This is the one stop place to find our class sign ups, volunteer packets, and links to DonorsChoose and our class Amazon Wish List, in addition to items that might not be found on Amazon, like our favorite Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpeners found only on that page. Just let me know if you want to purchase those for the class and I'll remove it from the page. 😉

The below links can also be found on the above Donations and Volunteering Opportunities page of our class web site for the future.

Laundry, Flowers, and Monthly Items Needed: Just for starters, would anyone like to kick off our class flower arranging on Monday with a bouquet of flowers?   Thank you!

Pizza Friday Pick Up Parent:

Pizza Shopping "Uber" Parent Chaperone:

Volunteer Packet: If you'd like to volunteer, you must fill out a new packet this year.  Click the link to go directly to the page with all the info you need.  Also, if you don't already have it, you'll need to have a Fingerprint Clearance Card on file to drive for any field trip.  It takes a few weeks to get those turned around, so I recommend starting the process soon!

Villa App: Subscribe to our class website to receive important information as I update it.  I'd like to save time and update from the website only instead of emailing you and updating simultaneously.  I can only do that once I have everyone added, so pretty please?! 🙂 Click the button under the picture of our class garden swallowtail caterpillar: https://www.villamontessori.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=316203&type=u&pREC_ID=2476479

Know there will be lots of ways to help our class both in person and with items needed this year.  It's what makes our June Bug Class such a wonderful family!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.  Be sure you've read my previous email about tomorrow's Open House from 9-10am, and how to sign your child up for pizza beginning the 2nd week of school (Aug. 16th!).  Thanks again and I’m looking forward to meeting/seeing you all soon!   Welcome to our class.  =)  Whew!  Now you are up to date, and I'm ready for a nap.  😂

~ Ms. June & Ms. Emily

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year and our class! I wanted to be sure to let you all know of some important items to note for the coming days.

Friday, 8/2/22 – Open House for our class.  All students are welcome!

  • Time: 9-10am, drop by to say hi, see the room, and grab your child’s Carpool Signs.
  • Bring supplies to avoid the 1st day rush (Please! We’d also like to get them set up for the 1st day before the students arrive) Be sure to clearly label all bags/boxes with your child’s name in case there’s a rush and we don’t get them checked in before you leave.

Food Allergies – We have students with a severe nut allergy that I want to alert you to.

  • Nuts ARE permitted this year.  We ask that if peanuts, cashews, or pistachios are in your child’s food (mixed nuts packages, mixed nut butters, etc.) please remind them so they can eat lunch that day at a different table for the safety of our students.

Pizza Friday starts the second Friday of school on 8/16/24 (not next week!) - Forms will be passed out at the open house or at Parent Night if you are interested in signing your child up, but you are welcome to send payment now via Venmo or with a note indicating your child's name and what type of pizza they would like (cheese or pepperoni).

If you would like your child to participate:

  • We will have both Cheese and Pepperoni pizza this year
  • All students will go on a Going Out Field Trip to Sprouts (28th St. & Indian School) to do pizza sides shopping with a Volunteer Parent and a classmate.  It's a ton of fun and a great economics lesson on how to budget for food!
  • The cost will be $145 year = $120 for pizza + $25 for pizza sides shopping payable now or 1/2 now & 1/2 by January 4.
  • If your child does not want pizza, we'd still like your child to help sponsor the $25 pizza sides once during the school year.
  • Payments can be made via cash, check made out to June Kraynik, or via Venmo https://www.venmo.com/u/June-Kraynik

DonorsChoose: I have two DonorsChoose projects available if you are interested in donating to.  I am trying to get 2 more stadium and wobble chairs or a Teachers Pay Teachers card so I can start making materials. Thank you!

 https://www.donorschoose.org/classroom/8376934

Amazon Wish List:  I’m currently adding to our class Amazon Helping Hands with a list of items that our class could use this year.  If you sort by priority, it will tell you which items are needed for the start of the year.  I'll be adding things as they come up in the coming weeks and then updating throughout the year.

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2WVNENOG8Q7BS?ref_=wl_share

To help us with writing our class thank you's, could you please put a post it on the item with your child's name or include a gift receipt. That would really help us keep track this year.  It’s at the top of my lesson lists to work on good ol’ fashioned letter writing!

That does it for now.  Thank you for your support as we kick off this school year.  I hope to see you all at our open house on Friday or at Parent Night next Wednesday!

Enjoy the final days of summer break!

~ June
