JANUARY 13th NEWSFLASH

January 13, 2025

Hello Everyone, Happy Monday!!!! Now that the second half of the school year is here, I really am looking for the kiddos to step up and really challenge themselves, set a "growth mindset" and hold themselves to a higher level.

Every Friday, I will be having students bring home their weekly Big Picture so that you can see what works they have completed each week. Any unfinished work will be taken home to complete over the weekend.

I have changed the "Big Picture" that students receive each week, to include specific works due on specific days, so that they can goal plan easier and know due date expectations. This process seemed to work well last week and the students seemed to be more successful.

I advised students that they can choose to take home any checked off work each week or include it in their end of the year portfolio. I am asking that parents look at your child's Big Picture and sign and have your child return it on Monday.

The goal is for parents to see the works that your child is working on, see their productivity, and hopefully this can also spark conversation with your child about the success of their week. I hope this helps give a bigger idea on what is going on in the classroom but please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Homework: Students should have finished their latest math homework packet last week and received their review packets on Friday. Parents, please check your child's math homework and initial their math and reading log daily.

November 24th Newsflash

I want to first say THANK YOU to everyone who was so kind to give Brian and me a gift to celebrate our wedding. Words cannot even express the thoughtfulness and generosity that your gifts will allow us for our future and our honeymoon.  We are humbled and if there was a word more powerful than grateful, that would be how we feel at this moment. All we can say is that we love you so much and on to big and beautiful things. I can honestly say all the hard work that was put into the wedding was so worth it! It was absolutely amazing, beautiful and fun BUT extremely COLD!! I cannot wait to show you pictures of the wedding once I get them.

Thank You Daniella Nicholson for organizing our class get together at Granada Park. Although it was a small gathering, it was a lot of fun and well organized. We appreciate you!!!

On a different note, I want to apologize for being off the grid the last 2 weeks. I left my laptop at work so I was unable to send out my weekly Newsflashes and then I actually got sick the day after the wedding and so I missed a few days of work. So, I am so apologetic for the lack of communication there has been on my end. Because of all of that, below you will see the changes and/or updates and needed information for this week.

Native American Project and Potluck: Students have been working on researching Native American Cultures and have been put into small groups with a requirement of completing a group project. They have been working on this  the last 3 weeks and will be presenting to Ms. Kayla's class tomorrow, Monday, November 25th. Each group was given requirements and was also told they could bring in a food, dessert or drink to represent their particular group. This item could be sample size portions for our class and are encouraged but not mandatory. Students do have the option to make the item at home or at school if needed.

E2 Class Picnic: I am wanting to get students to branch out and meet new peers at the E2 campus level and in order to do so, I have organized an E2 picnic that will take place 1x a month with 10 students from each class. Students will be split into 3 groups, on a specific day that particular group will walk over to Los Olivos Park with teacher supervision to enjoy picnic style lunch and then we will do 30min of community building games. These meet ups will be from 11:30-12:30, with the sole purpose for students from all the E2 classes to get together. Group 1 will be going tomorrow, November 25th. Group 2 will go on Wednesday, December 11th, and Group 3 will go on Wednesday, January 29th.  A permission slip was handed out last week, so please make sure to sign it, if you are okay with your child walking to Los Olivos Park.

Homework: Math: There will not be any homework do this week. If students are behind on their homework, this will be the week for them to catch up. Students will be given a new math homework folder this week but the first lesson from that folder will not be due until Mon. Dec.2nd

Math Lessons 41-45 will be due Mon. Dec. 2nd-6th.

Reading Log will resume after Thanksgiving break.

Please make sure to check your child's work daily and initial/sign.

Science Fair: I will be changing the due date of the Planning pages, pages 4, 5 & 7 to Monday, Dec.2nd . This week I will  be going over the requirements for their science journal and documentation of their observations. We will be doing journal checks in December and January.

Barter Day: This Tuesday, November 26th E2 will be doing a Barter Day in the afternoon. Students may bring in a pillowcase full of items that they would like to barter/trade. We ask that all items be school appropriate, any games or movies should be rated G or PG, and all items should be approved by parents to be bartered.

No School Wednesday, November 27th- Friday, November 29th for Thanksgiving Break.

This is all I have for now! Have a blessed and beautiful week and Thanksgiving!!!!
