Katey McPherson will be coming after spring break to speak to Elementary II students about digital safety. The February meeting is for parents to learn more themselves regarding topics listed below, as well as inform you about what she will talk to the students about.
For the VIRTUAL parent presentation on February 25th, please check your email for the Zoom link. This virtual event is private and not open to the public. Thank you!
The program is called Connected Communities, and it’s kind of like driver’s ed — but for smart devices.
This training will cover:
- Internet safety
- Digital footprint
- Online conflict and group texting etiquette
- Privacy and security and impact of screentime on young brains
Katey draws on 27 years in education to partner with schools to foster social-emotional wellness, build adaptive coping skills, and inspire digital citizenship.
Parents will also have the opportunity to participate in an optional take-home component using a highly restricted Bark Phone for a two-week period. During that time, families may complete short, guided activities together and then join a community debrief once the devices are collected after the two-week period. Parents may check out the devices following the parent presentation.
