A lot is going on in February. We have
Valentine's Celebrations on Friday the 13th. As we are studying North America for our semester projects this year, we are taking the opportunity to incorporate them into our class field trips, of which we have
2 this month.
Our class is taking a field trip to S’edav Va’aki (Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park). During this visit, students will learn about the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People (Hohokam), who lived in the Phoenix area for over 1,000 years. Students will explore how these early communities used irrigation, farming, and engineering to thrive in the desert and how their descendants, the Akimel O’Odham, continue to live in the area today. Learning will take place through an outdoor walking trail, replica homes, and hands-on observation of this important archaeological site.
We are going to have a full brass band come in to teach us about how brass instruments work, the cultural significance of brass bands in New Orleans and Mardi Gras, and even lead us in a Second Line. This experience has grown beyond the walls of our classroom, and other classes will be joining us for this incredible chance to touch, hear, and feel live music with professional musicians. There will be a Trumpet Player, a trombone player, a Sousaphone (tuba) player, a snare player, and a bass drum player. The in-house field trip will take place from 10:00-11:30

Pink Shirt Day (week) is a national and global movement that encourages people of all ages to wear pink as a visible symbol of support for kindness, inclusion, and respect for others. During this week, we will have conversations about what bullying is, why it is harmful, and what we can do to prevent it.
General Class Notes:
- 🎺🃏🕺Come "les bon temps roule" with us as we explore the workings of Brass instruments, Learn about Louisiana Culture and dance a second line. Have an idea of something that would make the event more festive, and want to bring it? Reach out to Teacher Bob!

- P.S. It's also Teacher Matty's Birthday ;)
- Mondays are a great day to get a feel for how the class works. On Mondays, we start our spelling routines and make planners for the week. Come in and join in the morning circle, and then help students complete their planners for the week and work on their first works of the week.
- Do you know a couple chord on guitar or ukulele? Can you follow a chord chart with the chords over the top of the words? Do you mean with a tambourine? We are trying out a new way to volunteer in the classroom where a parent (or two) joins in on our end-of-the-day singing circle. You can pull any guitar/ukulele/banjo/mandolin off the wall and chunk through the chords of our favorite songs. Want to bring in your own instrument? Shoot Teacher Bob an email so he can be ready and bring it with you!
Class Library Update
Our amazing class librarian, Allison, has put together a
shortlist of books that would be amazing to have added to the classroom library to help the 1st-3rd years in preparing for their North/Central America Projects. If you can help and purchase one or more of these, that would be amazing and much appreciated!
If you buy a book, please contact our classroom parent, Jen, or librarian, Allison, so they can take it off the list!
Third Grade Home Work -
3rd-grade parents, please make sure you are checking students' homework for completion and correct answers. If you notice your child is struggling with a particular problem, jot down a note for me, and I'll make sure to review it with them. Check out my
Homework Guide for more help, as well as a bonus photo of little Teacher Bob!
