Volunteering

Classroom Volunteers

Emergency Snack Provider- If the assigned family is unable to bring snack on their week, the emergency snack provider will do it instead. Assigned family will need to reimburse the emergency snack provider. Ideally this volunteer is someone who lives near the school so that the snack can arrive in a timely manner.

Material/Classroom Repair Helper- Volunteer will help with minor repairs in the classroom (when needed). The repairs may have to do with furniture, but may also relate to some of the classroom materials.

Material Prep. Helper- This volunteer will help prep any lesson material for the classroom during various times of the year (as needed). The teacher will provide the materials and instructions. This volunteer opportunity can be completed at home.

Parent Social Coordinator- This coordinator will plan and organize an evening social event for the parents in our class (no teachers attend,) one in the Fall and one in Spring. These social events are a great way for parents to get to know each other. Volunteer is welcome to plan more social gatherings that can include but are not limited to classroom playdates (this is optional).

Garden Helper- We are looking for a volunteer who has an interest and talent in gardening (aka "green thumb") to work with the students in prepping the class garden and to check on it from time to time. The children will maintain the garden (watering) throughout the year.

Art Masterpiece
- Volunteer must plan an art lesson that includes a short presentation of an artist, along with an activity based on that particular artist's style that is child-friendly (meaning the children can do the activity independently). This will be done once a month and with kindergarteners only (1:00-2:00PM) and should not take more than an hour. If your child is a napper/rester they will NOT be participating, but if supplies are left over we will allow the younger children to do the activity the next school day.
Pizza Friday Snack Volunteers
On "Pizza Friday" days, volunteer will choose one type of fruit and vegetable for the whole class. A list of suggestions can be found under the "Snack Calendar" tab. Please be sure to send us the pizza snack items on THURSDAY so that the produce is fresh and we can have a chance to prep it. Families may sign up for more than one slot.
Pizza Deliveries
Volunteer will pick up pizza from Hungry Howies and deliver to our campus. Families participating in Pizza Friday's may sign up once or multiple times in the year. One volunteer for the whole school year would be preferred if possible. Pizza's are typically ready for pick up between 11:00-11:15 and should be delivered no later than 11:30-11:40. More details will be shared as assigned date(s) approaches.
Laundry Volunteers
One family is needed per month to take a bag of laundry home over the weekend and return folded on the following Monday morning (before 8:30 AM). The bag will be prepped by the teacher and ready by the end of each day on each Friday. Volunteers can sign up for one or multiple months. Laundry will be left by the carline gate for pick up. To drop off, volunteer will give to a teacher helping at carline. If dropping off before 8:00AM, volunteer may park and bring laundry into the classroom.
Dishwashing Volunteers
One family is needed per month to take a classroom dishes home over the weekend and returned on the following Monday morning (before 8:30 AM). A crate with the dishes will be prepped by the teacher and ready by the end of each day on each Friday. Volunteers can sign up for one or multiple months. Dishes will be left by the carline gate for pick up. To drop off, volunteer will give to a teacher helping at carline. If dropping off before 8:00AM, volunteer may park and bring dishes into the classroom. ALL DISHES ARE DISHWASHER SAFE.
Mystery Reader Volunteer
Volunteer will choose ONE child-friendly book from home, read to the classroom, and lead a very quick, short discussion of the book (no more than 5 minutes). This activity will be done right before playground time on Fridays (11:00-11:15 AM). As the title suggests, this person is to remain a "mystery" to all the children (including, if possible, to the volunteer's own child). An email of our "Mystery Reader Guidelines" will be sent the week before the volunteer is scheduled to visit. For now, only ONE sign up per student is permitted to allow more families to participate.
PE/Movement Class Volunteer
Volunteers will assist with set-up, support the PE teacher during the activities, and engage with the children. Volunteers must arrive at 8:45 AM to help with the set-up before the children walk over at 9:00AM. Set-up includes a pop-up shade structure, water station, and activities. Please be sure to dress comfortably. The class will end at 9:45 AM. The class will be help in the grassy-area near the ECC parking lot. More information will be provided before your assigned date.
Cultural Show-and-Tell
Volunteer will pick a month to visit and will email Ms. Maria to agree on a date within that month. Volunteer will prepare a presentation sharing about their family's culture and heritage. This can include a book, some food, traditional clothing, traditional dance, music, artifact, etc. (you are welcome to pick which you'd like to do). The presentation can take 15-20 minutes and will start at 8:45 AM.
