State Testing: State testing starts next week, just 5th graders will be taking the Science test on Thursday, March 27th. Science Fair: The Science Fair is this, Thursday, March 6th. We will be having the fair in the Davis building outdoor area next to the library. Parents and families are welcome to come and view the fair from 10 am – 11 am.
Field Trips: We have two more field trips coming up this semester. We will be going to the Arizona Heritage Center on Tuesday, March 18th and then to ASU Gammage to view a performance by the Yellow Bird Indian Dancers on Thursday, April 24th. Permission slips were sent home last week, please return those by this Friday, March 7th.
Pajama Day: We will be having our next Pajama Day this Friday, March 7th. Students are allowed to wear their pajamas to school and bring a pillow and a blanket. If students have all their classwork completed for the week, they will be able to play games, read books and watch movies. If your student brings in a movie or game, we ask that it be school appropriate and rated G or PG.
Spring Break is next week, Monday, March 10th – Friday, March 14th.
One math lesson, lesson 91, and 20 minutes of reading are due when we come back from break on Monday, March 17th.

Also thank you to parent volunteer, Jay Hardin, for coming in last Friday and doing an art masterpiece lesson with the students. The students learned about Surrealism and artist Rene Magritte, they then made artwork of their own.

Homework: Students should have turned in two review lessons today. Their whole review math packet should be completed by this Friday. They will be getting a new homework packet this Friday as well.
There will be no spelling or spelling tests this week because of the short week.
Science Fair: Students should be working on their rough drafts this week they are due this Friday, February 21st. Students can also be starting to work on their presentations and tri-fold boards in the coming weeks. Students may work on these items during school, they just need to bring in their own supplies.
I will be editing rough drafts this week in class and going over tri-fold board requirements.
Everything is due Monday, March 3rd. We will be having the Art History Fair Thursday, March 6th between 10-11 am parents and family are welcome to come.

Thank you to parent volunteer, Martha baker, for coming in and doing another Art Masterpiece lesson with the class last Friday. We learned about Wampum belts, how Wampum beads are made, and the historical significance of them in American history. The students worked on weaving projects, one using beads and strings, and another where we started making a Great Tree of Peace on the fence using blocks of wood to help screen off the parking area from our garden area.

Pajama Day: Students earned an extra Pajama Day from the PTO Fun Run. We will be having the Pajama Day this Friday, February 14th. Students are allowed to wear their pajamas and bring one pillow/blanket to class. They also may bring school appropriate games, books, and movies. Movies should be rated G or PG.
Students still need to complete their classwork for the week to participate in Pajama Day.

The Valentine Grams will be passed out Friday, February 14th in the afternoon.

Science Fair: The next step for the Science Fair is the rough draft. We went over the requirements for the rough draft in class last week and students were given a rubric to follow. Included in the rough draft should be a title page, table of contents, an abstract, an introduction, their experiment and data, conclusion, bibliography page, and an acknowledgement page.
The rough draft is due Friday, February 21st.
If your student didn’t complete pages 11-12 in their science packet I will be checking those page on Monday, February 10th.

PTO Fun Run: The PTO Fun Run was a huge success! Thank you everyone who got donations and came out to the run. We were the top E2 class this year earning $132 per lap, and the students earned numerous prizes. Some of the prizes were extra recess, afternoon movie, and an extra Pajama Day, we will be fulfilling those prizes in February.
Again, thank you everyone for your support!
Overnight: Our class overnight has changed location and dates. We will be attending CampWay at Friendly Pines camp in Prescott, Arizona rather than the location in Mayer, AZ. The overnight will be happening the same week but will be Monday-Wednesday, rather than Wednesday-Friday. The new dates are Monday, May 12th- Wednesday, May 14th, 2025.

Students will also be getting a Health form in their communication folders that needs to completed and turned in by Monday, February 10th. E2 Picnic Lunch: We will be having our third group of students attend the picnic lunch this Wednesday, January 29th. A small group of students from each E2 class will walk over to Los Olivos Park and have lunch and play games together. Science Fair: The next due date for the Science Fair is this Friday, January 31st. The final Journal check is due. Students should have their data/pictures from their experiment in their journals as well as a table/graph showing the data collected. The next item due is the rough draft of the science paper. I will be going over the requirements this week in class on how to complete the paper.

Fire Drill: We will be having a fire drill this Tuesday, December 17th, to continue our yearly safety practice.
Cookie Making and Decorating: We will be making cookies in class this Wednesday, December 18th and then decorating the cookies this Thursday, December 19th. Each student will get around five cookies each to decorate and take home.

Homework: Students should be completing one math lesson and reading log over the break. Lesson 56 is due the Monday we come back.
Students should also be working on their Science Fair project. They should be starting their experiments and collecting data in their Science Fair journal.

Science Fair: The next due was going to be a journal check this Friday, December 13th. I will be out this Friday, so I am moving the turn in date to the following Monday, December 16th. Students should have their Science Fair Journals started and have at least the procedure, materials and hypothesis written down in their notebook. If they have started their experiment, they should also have data and pictures included.
Pajama Drive: A couple of E2 classrooms are doing a Pajama Drive for kids in need. They are asking for new pajama sets sizes 0-12 Youth. If you would like to donate please have your student bring in the pajamas by Monday, December 16th to be donated.

Overnight Chaperones: We will be going to Chauncey Ranch, May 14-16, 2025 for our class overnight this year. We are looking for adult chaperones to attend this trip. To be a chaperone you need a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card by March 1, 2025, and agree with the expectations written below. Chaperones will be required to pay a cost of $265.00, due in January.

E2 Picnic Lunches: The first picnic lunch will happen today Monday, November 25th. The next two times are TBD.
As a goal for E2, we are wanting to organize ways for students to branch out and meet new peers amongst the other classes. We will be getting small groups of students from each class to be able to meet this school year. We will be doing a picnic lunch at Los Olivos Park, students will bring their lunch and also be able to participate in organized play. We will be having three groups from each class go at different times this school year.
Please sign the attached Google Form, if you give your child permission to walk to Los Olivos park with adult supervision in order to participate in one of the three E2 lunch meet up times this school year.
Barter Day: Tomorrow Tuesday, November 26th E2 will be doing a Barter Day in the afternoon. Students may bring in a pillowcase full of items that they would like to barter/trade. We ask that all items be school appropriate, any games or movies should be rated G or PG, and all items should be approved by parents to be bartered.
No School Wednesday, November 27th- Friday, November 29th for Thanksgiving Break.
Homework: Students received their new Math Homework packets last week, the first lesson will be due Monday, December 2nd. There will be no math homework due this week, students should continue to read 20 minutes a night.
Students should also be working on their Science Fair Projects. I will be doing a journal check in December, seeing that students have started researching and taking data of their experiments.

PTO Gratitude Breakfast: Join us this Thursday, November 21st for some sunshine and socialization! Bring your own breakfast, and the PTO will provide the hot cocoa. The event will take place from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. on the E2 courtyard, next to the swings.
Science Fair: The next due date is this Friday, November 22md. Planning pages, pages 4, 5 & 7 are due. This week I will also be going over what their Science Fair journal should be and what data they should be keeping. We will be doing a journal check in December and January.

It was great seeing everyone yesterday at the class social, it was beautiful day! Thank you to parent coordinator, Teri Kelley, and parent, Jessica Delfino, for organizing the social.
A big thank you to parent chaperones/drivers that helped with the field trip last Friday to see a Naturalization ceremony at the Sandra Day O’Connor Federal courthouse. The Hon. Judge Bachus gave us a tour and we were able to ask her questions, we watched around 75 people from 26 different countries get their citizenship, and Judge Desai gave us a tour of her chambers and showed us pictures of the Supreme Court over the years. It was a very informative and great experience!

6th Grade Parents: The Middle School Information Meeting is this Thursday, November 7th, from 6:30 – 8:00pm, on the middle school campus. This meeting is for 6th grade parents only. We have planned this presentation to educate current 6th grade parents on our program for the coming school year. This meeting is designed for parents only as we don’t have seating to accommodate students as well. Sixth grade students will learn about our program during their Middle School Preview Day in May.

Reminder: With Halloween this week, a reminder that students are not allowed to have candy at school. They also should not be wearing any costume to school. A headband or other decorative item is fine, but masks and full costumes are not allowed.
Field Trip: We will be having our next field to the Sandra Day O’Connor Federal Courthouse to watch a Naturalization Ceremony this Friday, November 1st. We will be leaving the school in the morning and returning around 11:30 am. We will still be having Pizza Friday.
They ask that students wear appropriate attire for the courtroom, no shorts, sweats, hats, or t-shirts with printed statements.
Lost and Found: This week will be lost and found viewing. All lost and found items will be put out in the carline area, anything not claimed by the end of the week will be donated.

A thank you and shout out to parent volunteers Roopali Desai and Jay Hardin. Judge Desai gave E2 students a presentation last Thursday on Sandra Day O’Connor Civics Day and brought in members of her cabinet to discuss civic engagement and do an activity with the students. Jay gave the class an Art Masterpiece lesson last Friday and students made botanical themed collages using found leaves and plants.
This Friday, October 25th will be a Half-Day for the whole school, no afternoon circle. School will be out at 11:30 am, for staff professional development.
Phoenix Zoo Field Trip: We will be having our rescheduled Phoenix Zoo field trip tomorrow, Tuesday, October 22nd. We will be leaving the school around 8:40 am and returning around 2:30 pm. Please make sure your student brings a sack lunch, water bottle, and a hat/sunscreen/sun protection. Students may bring money for the gift shop but are responsible for keeping track of it.
Science Fair: The first due date for the Science Fair packet is the signature page due this Friday, October 25th.
Trunk or Treat: This Saturday, October 26th will be Villa’s Trunk or Treat at the Elementary Field.
Each campus will have a designated walk-through time as follows:
4:00 - 4:45 PM - ECC (Infants, Toddlers, Primary, Kindergarten),
5:00 - 5:45 PM - Elementary I (1st - 3rd grade)
6:00 - 6:45 PM - Elementary II and Middle School (4th - 8th grade)
If your family has students in different program levels, please choose one walk-through time to attend. Each person will get a ticket when they enter to VOTE for their favorite trunk!

Safety Week: This week is Safety Week; we will be going over the different safety drills we may need to do during the school year. The drills include, fire drills, Soft Lockdowns, Hard Lockdowns, Shelter in Place, and Evacuation. We will be practicing an evacuation drill this Wednesday, October 16th.
Vision and Hearing Screening: Tomorrow Tuesday, October 15th we will be doing Vision and Hearing Screenings. All 5th grade students, new students to Villa and those with a special education plan will be tested. If your student wears glasses, please make sure they wear them tomorrow.
Picture Make-Ups: School picture make-ups will be this Wednesday, October 16th.
A.C.E. Building Open House: The Middle School will be having an open house for the ACE Building this Thursday, October 17th from 7-8:30 pm.
Overnight Payment Form: Over break an email was sent out about the payment options for our Overnight to Chauncey Ranch in May. Please make sure to fill out this form by this Thursday, October 17th.

Science Fair: This year we are doing the Science Fair as our big project. Students will pick a science experiment/project to do the scientific method with and create a paper, tri-fold board and presentation. They will be presenting their report and projects at the Science Fair that will be happening the week of March 3rd. Specific date TBD.
We passed out the Science Fair packets today in the students’ communication folders. Please review the information and go over it with your student. The first due date is Friday, October 25th which is the signature page stating you read and understand the requirements.
Homework: Students should be working on their review packets for math this week, they will be getting a new packet of homework this Friday, October 18th. Students should also continue to read 20 minutes nightly and practice their high frequency spelling words.
Novel Study: We will be starting our next novel study book next week. We will be reading the book, The Birchbox House by Louise Erdrich. If you would like to get the book for your student please purchase it by next Wednesday, October 23rd.

A big shout out and THANK YOU to parent volunteer, Martha Baker, for coming in last Friday and doing an Art Masterpiece lesson with the students. The students learned about land art and started creating plans with scale models to make their own land art that we will be installing in the open area behind our classroom. This will be an ongoing project throughout the year involving going outs and a project that will leave a lasting impression on our community.

Rescheduling Field Trip: There is an Excessive Heat Warning this entire week, so we have rescheduled the Phoenix Zoo field trip to Tuesday, October 22nd. Fingers-crossed the weather will be cooler by then.
Pajama Day: This Friday, October 4th will be our first Pajama Day. On Pajama Days students are allowed to wear their pajamas to school and bring in one blanket and/or pillow. They also are allowed to bring in any school appropriate games, books, or movies. Movies should be age and school appropriate and rated G or PG. Students need to have all of their weekly work completed to participate in Pajama Day activities.
Homework: Students should be finishing their math homework packets by the end of this week; Lesson 20 is due this Friday. We will be handing out review packets on Friday as well.
We will not be doing spelling practice or tests this week, we will continue spelling after Fall break.
Next week is Fall Break, October 7th-11th. School resumes on Monday, October 16th and Review Lesson 1 will be due along with 20 minutes of reading.

Math Tests: Now that students have started their math packets, we have started taking weekly math tests. We take math tests on Monday mornings, and they go over the last 4/5 lessons from the previous week.
We will grade math tests in class, make corrections with the students if needed and send home the tests in the students’ communication folders by the end of the week or following week.
To help students be successful you can remind them to study the concepts in their homework packets over the weekend.

Homework: Students received new homework packets on Friday. Students should do one lesson per night. Please continue to check and initial your student’s math homework and reading log each night.
We will be starting Math Tests on Monday mornings based on the homework starting next Monday, September 16th. To help your student be successful you can have them review the previous 4 lessons over the weekend. For example, the first test will be going over the concepts learned in Lessons 1-4.
Field Trip Permission Slip: A permission slip for our class field trips this semester went home last week. Please fill it out and turn it in by Monday, September 30th.
We will be going to the Phoenix Zoo on Thursday, October 3rd and taking a tour of the Sandra Day O’Connor Courthouse on Friday, November 1st. We will also be watching a Naturalization/Citizenship Ceremony on Friday, November 1st.
We do need parent drivers and chaperones for these trips, please indicate on the permission slip if you are able to chaperone/drive. To be a chaperone you must have a fingerprint clearance card and filled out an updated volunteer packet with the school.

Spelling Practice: Students are starting their spelling practice in class. They will either be using the Word Their Way program that helps with spelling rules, or Wordly Wise which is more vocabulary based. Students will not be tested on these programs.
Students will be tested every Friday on the High Frequency Spelling words. Your student will get a list of words on Monday in their Communication Folder that they should practice for the week and then will be tested in class on Fridays. Students will do 25 words and/or circled words on their list. Once the students complete the 1200 High Frequency packet they will no longer be tested on Fridays for spelling.
Pizza Fridays: We will be starting Pizza Fridays on Friday, August 30th. Forms to sign-up were in the Parent Orientation packet. Please return the completed form by Monday, August 26th. If you need support or a different payment plan please reach out to me by email at [email protected].

A couple of reminders:
Parent Orientation: We will be having our Parent Orientation night this Thursday, August 8th at 6:30 pm in the classroom, Room 212. We ask that at least one parent attends the orientation, if you are unable to attend, we will send home your Parent Orientation packet in your student’s communication folder on Friday.
Homework: Summer Homework should be turned in this week, students will be getting their first homework packet which is review work this Friday, August 9th. A calendar for homework due dates will also be set home or you can find a copy under the tab Homework Calendar.
