October 4th Newsflash
Weekly Newsflash
I can’t believe we only have ONE more week before Fall Break! Where is the time going?!
This week students will be completing a series of mini projects before heading off for break, but first let's look back on this past week.
Celebrations, Creations & Discoveries!
Hispanic Heritage Fair: The kids did a FANTASTIC job with their Hispanic Heritage projects and presentations! On Friday, we held part one of our Hispanic Heritage Fair, where students had the opportunity to present to one another. I am SO proud of them and all of their hard work!
Mystery Book Tasting: We also had our second Book Tasting, and this time our genre was Mystery! Students had the opportunity to preview and explore a variety of mystery books in hopes of finding one they might enjoy reading for our October Book Genre. It was so much fun to hear about the books that kids were excited to read and possibly start a book club to make it a little more fun!!
Class Happenings This Week
Hispanic Heritage Cultural Presentations: Students will be wrapping up their Hispanic Heritage Month Cultural presentations this Friday! Parents, please keep in mind your child may request some materials throughout the week for this. Any food presentations must be made at home and brought in to share with the class for Friday. Please take note of peanut allergies within our classroom! If your child is bringing in food, please also be aware it must be enough to share with all 28 students in the class.
Writers Cafe: Students will get to share their writing that they have completed so far this year with their classmates in a fun way!! We will provide little bites and drinks while students are in writing circles sharing their writing samples.
Pizza Friday Snack
Thank you to the Waugh Family for providing our Pizza Friday snack this week! We appreciate you!
Homework
IXL Math: Students should complete their assigned IXL concepts each day with a goal of reaching a SmartScore of 80. If your child becomes frustrated after working on a concept for 20–30 minutes, please have them stop and move on to the next concept. I do not want homework to become overwhelming or frustrating.
I will also start giving students approximately 20–30 minutes of homework time in class, which will give them an opportunity to get started and ask for help when/if needed.
Reading: Please continue 20 minutes of reading each night. Our October genre is Mystery, so students should choose a Mystery book for their October reading.
Spelling: Please practice this week’s spelling words with your child throughout the week so they are prepared for their test on Friday.
